Question: What happens if you put a non dimmable led in dimmer?

If you use non-dimmable LEDs on a dimmer, what happens? The bulb will not dim properly. The circuitry inside non-dimmable LEDs wont be able to handle low or pulsing current levels and will eventually become damaged, because they are only designed to be either fully powered ON or off.

Can I use a non-dimmable LED on dimmer?

A dimmer switch can only support LEDs, CFLs and other lights that are made up of advanced technology and have a dimming feature. It is that a non-dimmable electrical light should never be used with dimmer switches.

Can I dim a non-dimmable fixture?

Can you dim any LED bulb? In a word, no. Dimmable LED bulbs and their non-dimmable counterparts use entirely different componentry, so putting a non-dimmable bulb on a dimmable circuit will not work. This isnt true of the reverse though; a dimmable bulb will work just fine on a non-dimmable circuit, it just wont dim…

Why are some LEDs not dimmable?

Leading-edge dimmers mostly work with high-wattage loads like incandescent bulbs that use a lot of energy. But LEDs use up very little energy or are extremely low-wattage. This is one reason why leading-edge dimmers cant control LED circuitry very well.

How do I know if my LED lights are dimmable?

Look for an LED or LED LAMP marking on the bulb as well. Most residential LED light bulbs are dimmable, but some are not. In addition, the amount they can dim, or “dimming range”, also varies based on the light bulb used.

Can any wall light be dimmable?

Most light fixtures will work with standard dimmer switches, including those with halogen and incandescent lamps. LED fixtures, for instance, may work with standard dimmers, but some may need a specialized dimmer. Likewise, not all compact fluorescent (CFL) light fixtures can be dimmed.
