Question: Can you have a relationship with a former teacher?

Is it illegal to date a former teacher?

While teachers are currently barred from intimate relationships with current students, NSW is the only state in the country which does not explicitly ban teachers from embarking on romantic relationships with former students even if they are of legal age.

The relationship is legally permissible if the educator and student were married when the sexual relationship occurred. It is also acceptable if the relationship began before the acceptance of employment and the age disparity between the educator and student is no more than three years.

Can a teacher hug you?

To hug or not to hug? In the classroom, it can be a tricky question. Some schools outright prohibit this level of physical contact between teachers and students, while others encourage teachers to give comfort when needed.
