Question: Does Nest Thermostat need to be wired?

No. The thermostat cannot be wired directly to your heating system. Using Heat Link to control your heating allows you to put the thermostat where youd like. So if you dont have thermostat wires in the wall or if the existing thermostat was poorly placed, you can still install your Nest thermostat in a good spot.

Does Nest need to be hardwired?

It needs to be hardwired. You will need to have a wired doorbell and chime installed already, or be prepared to wire your house for doorbell compatibility if you want to install Nest.
